In this one-day tour discover the history, tradition and culture of two cities that had great importance in the history of Portugal. The city of Guimarães, considered cradle of Portuguese nation, was capital of the county portucalense, the first capital of Portugal. Important historical events took place in the city of Guimarães, such as the birth of the first king of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques, and some of the major political and military events that would lead to independence and the birth of a new nation. Visit its historic center, classified as Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco, and enjoy the medieval atmosphere preserved in its ancestral streets and monuments. This tour also takes you to Braga, founded in the time of the Romans as Bracara Augusta, the oldest Portuguese city with more than 2000 years of history as a city. Known also as one of the oldest Christian cities in the world, often called as the Portuguese Rome, it was for centuries the seat of bishops and an important place of pilgrimage.
